Well what do they look like?

My guess is that they are the striped ones.. If they are then yes this is normal.. The stripes are a juvinal coloring.

this is it im sure - Orange Line Chromis (Acanthochromis polyacanthus)

I got a pair accidentally (liveaquaria.com sent me the wrong fish) a few years ago. They swam and hung out with my green chromis and eventually turned all black as well. They did get larger than the green ones and I eventually had to get rid of them (was overstocked at the time).

Not at all! The only time I saw any aggression was when the green chromis were mating, they would become territorial with each other but never attacked any other fish at all.
