So I was cleaning the breakfast dishes up while our 2 1/2 yr old daughter, Mia, was playing with her arts and crafts beads and string. Well she decided I guess, that it would be "fun" to shove a cpl of said beads directly up her nasal cavity! Just got home from ENT and beads are safely removed and all ok. Not too much fun for either of us. Our first foreign object incident and hopefully the last!

Thx Divott! yea I want the days back where shoving a cheese sandwich in the dvd player was bad. At least that wasn't anything that could hurt her really!

In HIGH SCHOOL I knew someone who shoved a pepper up her nose. It went all the way into the nasal cavity and started really burning. She had to go to the emergency room. I guess some people don't grow out of it. ;D

Ask Jwin about the time he shoved a peanut up his nose....:cheesy:

Never mind, I'll tell it. It's more graphic when I tell it because he probably doesn't remember it. Let's see, a typical Saturday corralling triplets - they were probably about 3 at the time. Husband is off playing golf, of course.

The boys are sitting at the table eating and Jwin starts crying and pointing to his nose. I look up there and can see the peanut, but he shoved it WAY up there. Called the doctor. He said to try to make him sneeze. Makes perfect sense. Jwin inhales some pepper, starts sneezing. No peanut. Doctor finally says to meet me at the office. So, I'm lying across Jwin, trying to keep him from clawing the doctor's eyeballs out as he crams this hook-shaped thing up the nose to try to get the peanut out. Jwin, of course, is screaming his lungs out. Doctor tries multiple times. Doctor starts sweating profusely, and I mean profusely. Finally, he goes in again with the hook and out pops the peanut. He said we were on his last try before we were going to the ER. What a fun day. :cheesy:

    Yup, kids are great.......

It's so common for little kids to shove things up their noses, unfortunately. One thing that we always learned to try before bringing the kids to the ER is to tell them to hold their breath and open their mouth. The parent then blows a sudden puff of air into the kid's mouth, almost like doing CPR breaths, but with the kid holding his/her breath. Because the breath is being held, the puff of air can't go down the throat, and has nowhere to go but out the nose. So, in essence, what you are doing is making the kid sneeze out his/her nose. That may dislodge the object. Of course, if that doesn't work, it's off to the ER.:p
