So I can taken all the bio-balls out of my bio cube in hopes of getting rid of the red algae problem I am having. This leads me to ask the question what should I place in the second chamber. Now i have had this tank for about 18 months or so and all it has been is a pain. I moved and was dumb and got rid of my 30 due to room issues. So if someone can help me and explain it in idiot terms i would greatly appreciate it! Also what have you guys done to help with the clogging stock filter issues...it seems like every week I nee a new one due to it hindering the flow of water.

SOmetimes people will put LR rubble in 2nd chamber to replace bioballs(same thing)they do this because LR is easier to maintain for one, and it also is probebly better in filtration IMO.

adding a powerhead or 2 will help greatly as well, korolia nanos are a great size for the nanos,i have a jbj with 2 return pumps and still felt my flow was weak. Most usually adding a pump or 2

I have the Biocube 29 and replaced all of the bioballs with some rubble rock and just got rid of the filter pad all together. I have an Aquatic Life Internal Mini skimmer in the first section. If the red algae is cyano you could help combate that with some increase in the flow through powerheads and using RO/DI water if you're not already.

well I have added another power head and i have removed all of the bio balls...I have noticed an increase in the purple calcium blots around the inside of the tank...could this be part of the problem? I am using RODI water already. Im not sure if adding another power head is possible its a 14 and it have quit a bit of rock and this other power head..what exactly is chaeto?
