Hey guys. Havent been on a lot lately but Ive been considering doing some serious work to my biocube. I was planning on retrofitting some LEDs of some sort into the hood of the cube. I already did the same thing with some moonlight LEDs but they hardly do anything at all. Im looking to get a much bluer look to the tank but I was also thinking about adding some either 10k or 14k to help with LPS and possible SPS growth as well. I was thinking about buying some of the ecoxotic stunner strips or maybe even a panorama strip. But Im not sure if they make models that will fit into a 14 gallon cube. I was planning on taking out the actinic bulb to add two strips of LEDs. Could this work? Or what would be a good place to look for LEDs to serve this purpose? Im not very knowledgeable about LEDs just yet. ::) lol Thanks in advance.

    EDIT!

Just thought Id throw another question on this thread I already started instead of starting another one. I bought an Oceanic biocube protein skimmer a few weeks ago and have to retune it everyday only to get clear skimmate.... To run this skimmer you have to take out your first tray of filtration, that threw me off guard at first. Bad idea. Ive messed with this thing so much and have gotten no results from it. Im thinking about just tossing it in the garbage. Its a useless piece of junk just like the rest of the biocube. The only thing stock on mine now is the pump and even then if I could I would change it.... Anyway, done ranting about this tank now. Haha. What could I put in place of the protein skimmer? Ive heard using filter pads can be detrimental long term and kills many small organisms. Is this true? I was thinking about replacing this area with more live rock. I already have my second stage filtration , which is bioballs stock, switched to liverock rubble and chaeto to function as a small fuge. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Wow. Impressive mod. I would love to do something like this. Where would I look to buy all the materials needed? Ive never soldered anything before and dont have too much electrical experience besides car audio stuff. Haha. But I would love to do something like this. Thanks for your input.

I just hung a par38 over my biocube 14, I just open the top, then at nighttime, I close the top and it has built in moonlight LEDs.

Was your evaporation rate really high? Is the light sufficient for SPS growth?

I got everything from Lowes and LEDgroupbuy.com. Plus the drivers. From somewhere. Aluminum U-channel thermal epoxy and rivets for the heatsink. I can give more info when I'm off my phone
