So yesterday it was feeding time....I start feeding the tank a variety of foods. Suddenly my clownfish start motoring around THROUGH the sand? It was kicking up sand, flicking it around. Not like it was scratching or anything.....just weird. It was also picking up bigger pieces of gravel and throwing them......weirdo :shifty:

Anyone elses do anything like this?

No, but I have seen clowns do some crazy things... So you are positive it wasn't flashing to remove parasites correct?

    I'm pretty sure.

No black/white spots, no pods attached, nothing thats visible on the body at all.

Ich starts in the gill area, Most likely if it was leading with its head into the sand it was because of Ich. I would use a Reef Safe formula called "The Fish Keeper"

    It does wonders :)

Clowns do this. Simply put. Mine flick sand away from their frogspawn on the sandbed all day long. I had to move all of the close corals away from them because I was sick of blowing sand off them. They've been doing it for over 9 months. No Ich present in my tank. I've seen several youtube vids of them doing this. Perfectly normal.

Don't treat your tank for ich unless your tank has ich.

Yeah, the clown was not leading with the head. He was just flicking sand around with his belly/tail. Crazy fish!

Also, if it were ich or anything would he visit my cleaner? Would my cleaner be trying to get at him more? This hasn't been happening at all.

My clown does the same thing. Odd activity is completely normal for clowns.

I don't think the clowns would ever mess with a cleaner shrimp. They are not the type to sit still. mine have never approached my cleaner. It takes some fish a lot of time to get used to them too. My cleaner used to try to clean my mandarin all the time and boy did it piss off the mandarin. My cleaner would clean my blenny daily and I saw it clean my hippo tang once, tang didn't care for it, but lawnmower blenny LOVED it. My cleaner recently died in a tragic rockslide and now my blenny is lonely. He actually lets me pet him and almost scratch his back with my fingernail in remembrance to his old friend Mr Cleaner Shrimp. Strangely comfortable with me. lol
