I would not put the coral in if your tank has not cycled yet. I cycled mine first with dead shrimp and it took about 4 weeks and then the 5th week I put damsels in it.. and my tank finished its cycle in 2 months.. then I added some soft corals.

This is an establish system, I bought it from a co worker who's moving away, the LR stayed wet the whole time so it shouldn't cycle right? If it does cycle while I have fish In there then what happens?

if the ammonia levels get too high it will kill the fish... damsels are about the only fish that can handle tank cycles...

the skimmer is an avast cs1 cone skimmer kit, and i have about 80-90 LBS of LR, and no sand (dead or alive). with this set up, what do you recommend as far as how many/what types of fish to put in it? I'd like a blue hippo and a yellow tang, 3-4 domino's, and 3-4 blue green chromis, and a purple fire fish. currently i have a pair of clowns, what lookslike a 6 line, and a dotty back, and a 3.5 trillion snails. plus a cleaner shrimp. please help me out here

The tangs will out grow the 90 esp. the blue hippos since they grow fast. I have a powder brown (& 3 damsels and thats all) in my 55 while its young however I have a 150 for him when it comes time.

now when you say out grow it fast, are we talking 3-5 weeks, a couple months or 3-5 years?

ehhh...blue could take a year or 2 to "outgrow" depending on how purchase size is. yellow will be fine.

    Its a copper band butterfly.

They are more sensitive and can be difficult to get them to eat.
