First, congrats cosmo! You will enjoy them.

Second, clearly many of you have various questions about wrasses. Please, take a look at my guide: All About Reef Safe Wrasses
I have a tremendous amount of hours which I put into that, and it would answer most of the questions asked here. I'll briefly provide answers to the questions which have been asked here, but please take your future questions to the aforementioned thread. Having a Q&A in a collective location helps everyone in the future.

Dwarf? No such thing really. Species of the Paracheilinus (flasher) genus rarely exceed 3" however, and this species would be suitable for that size of tank. You should be fine with ~3 different species, or 3 of one species (1M, 2F). Please refer to the guide above.

What's a few fish? A 100g is big enough to keep nearly all the reef safe wrasses. My tank is a 120g long, and you see how many I'm keeping. I also have a Tomini Tang and a pair of B&W Ocellaris. However, keeping this many (in an stony tank nevertheless) is obviously a commitment and isn't something I'd recommend for the beginner. Assuming no other fish, I'd be comfortable with ~8 fairy (Cirrhilabrus) wrasses in there. Adjust that number accordingly for what you already have in the tank, or increase it slighty if you are considering something of a smaller genus, say Paracheilinus.

Prevent? You don't/can't prevent; you must keep them in. :) A clear 1/4" mesh top with ZERO gaps is the only receipe for success in this department. The mesh is available on BRS in the misc. section. They also have instructional videos located the demonstrating how to make your window screens for the mesh.

Don't rely on egg crate; the smaller guys will go right through it (ie - any Paracheilius wrasse or a small Cirrhilabrus wrasse). The holes are just too big. Again, only bother to use 1/4" mesh. It won't block any light like egg crate does either.

I do not recommend glass tops.
    1) It's a constant battle to keep them clean, and prevent light loss
    2) They severly hamper the gas exchange of the tank. Stock your tank enough, and you'll sufficate it with a glass top.
    3) If you drill holes in it, you've just made opportunities for escape.

You CANNOT leave openings in your cover; wrasses will find them. It's not a matter of if, but when.

    Correct! Thanks. :)

    Thanks Kacy! :cheesy:

This is just about the smallest tank I'd consider putting a wrasse in (some exceptions do apply). However, it is the smallest size tank I'd put a Paracheilinus (flasher) wrasse into. One or two of them would be fine. Again, please take a look at the guide for more suggestions.

To everyone/anyone else: if you have questions, please go ask them in the guide. I'd even prefer that over a PM. I keep a close eye on that thread; I won't miss you. :)

In my 100g a few fish is yellow tang, pair firefish, pair Onyx clowns, 4 chromis, 1 manderin, 1 red scooter blenny. As I stated if these fish wont get along with the reef safe wrasses I would be willing to give them up. My main question is, Are the reef safe wrasses safe with clams? I had a Melanarus kill 2 clams, dont want another similar incident.

In fairness, I did ask a return question on this one. :)
The Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus genuses are completely reef safe. The Melanurus is a Halichoeres wrasse, and that can be a risk with them. Most likely, he was after pyramidal snails on the underside of the clam, rather than the clam itself.

Your tank is starting to get on the full side, I think, but a Cirrhilabrus (fairy) wrasse should be fine with everything there. Nothing in that last I see as an aggression issue with either a Cirrhilabrus or a Paracheilius wrasse.

The McCoskers wrasse arrived DOA! BOOOO. Actually think it was a packing mistake, the poor guy was wedged into a corner of the bag pretty good. Called DD, and credit was issued, but wish he had made it. The line spot is starting to move around in the bucket though, so let's hope i get 1 of these suckers in the tank.

The line spot was moving around pretty good in the acclimation cage in the tank, but now he's just laying in a rock not moving. Hoping he gets his energy up before someone decides to be a bully, he has AWESOME coloration

the line spot is hanging out behind a rock and my chromis was starting to pick on him a bit, so a i put a net near him. The tank fish won't get near a net so its letting him adjust a little more. Hopefully he gets his strength soon. he's looking around, just not moving much.

Thx grinder, hows that leopard doing? That thing is cool looking!
