I do have a question Evolved. I got myself a male fairy wrasse two days ago.. Not even a day and it jumped to the overflows which then sucked it in and took it down to the filter pads where it died....

I have a 150G tank... How have you prevented jumping? or better yet, how would you prevent jumping in my situation without compromising lighting.
3 of my fish have done this so far, Not necessarily a wrasse though ( this has been in a span of 4 years btw). I have a melenarous wrasse who's been is pretty happy inside the tank for a year now lol

    sorry to hijack xD OP

hijack away, no worries! There are a few options, egg crate is ok, or make a mesh screen using wedding veil material! looking forward to hearing better ideas!

use a glass top, not sure what kind of lighting you use but IME T5 HO do not generate that much heat , do live in northeastern US thought, and the glass is clear enough that the amount of light refracted should not be that big of a deal. Even if it is defracted, if you place the light right on the top like I do then then it is only going to bounce into the tank at an angle instead of straight down. As for gas exchange, I drill holes in the back plastic strip small enough that fish do not fit through but large enough that air can move easily, I guess you could drill holes in the glass as well if you have the right tools.

Use the clear netting from BRS and get the screen kit from your local home improvement store.

If only I had the tools, I would make a glass canopy fit to the tank with custom cutouts for the equipments on the back and a large rectangle in th middle for the light to be over. Never seen it done but it would be practical, never been a fan on screens and what not

I'm sorry Cosmo, but if you you don't mind I'd like some advice from either you or Evolved (again, but this time it's not about diy led's). I have a 36gal bow with a 20gal fuge/sump that I'm just about to add water to. I am looking for a wrasse and wanted to know which would work with my size and what I plan for housing ('shrooms, zoa's, softies, maybe hammer or frog to start with). Thank you very much... again!
