Just keep in mind that the beneficial bacteria that you need to avoid a cycle lives on the LR (and other hard surfaces). It is just as important to keep it aerated as well. If you don't want to run two PH'S I would probably take at least a couple of rocks and add it to the container with the PH. Changing the sand shouldn't cause much of a cycle (if any) provided you keep the bacteria on your rocks alive.
