Best fish for hair algae?

    Algae is like The Flood from Halo. You have to destroy its food to really stop it from reproducing.

    Back to the original topic... , sort of ... ;D

    I was just thinking about one of these myself as I had one in my last tank and it would mow algae down as stated. The reason I hesitate now is that it doesn't care if it is pretty algae (purple, etc) or not, it mows it all down. Also, several of my frags are not secured well enough yet - they will knock it all over. So personally, I think I will get another one, but only after I break out the putty for all my frags. FWIW

    Yes, Halo has a story line. Including a series of about 5 or 6 books. So yeah :D

    And chitons and urchins are by far my favorite algae cleaners. With urchins being the best IMO. Our two urchins go to town in our tank, and we still have coralline growing.

    Using a combination of critters, plants, and possibly reactors (we have a phosphate reactor) will definitely rid you of your algae.
