oh its not that they have no idea its that they don't care, if they sell u 2 stars for your undersized tank it is a. 2 more than they would have sold, and b. if/when the stars die you will have to come back and buy more stuff you don't need. thus it is your responsibility to know what you are doing not the lfs.

I guess I can't corroberate with my own information, but that is what I have read. Plus I had a 90 gallon tank and got two, one died after a few months.

This is true. They do move sand around, but that's it. No help at all on algae.

I did some more reading on the sand star, and I definitely overstocked. I'm going to grab one of them out of my tank this week and give it to my buddy.

IMO, both are bad advise. They are carnivores, true. If you feed meat to your tank (silversides, shrimp, etc.) you will get leftovers. Uneaten leftovers will contribute to algae growth (bad params anyway). Not to mention when snails, etc. eventually die - something needs to eat that too.

I'm not saying you need a zillion, but not having any meat eating members to your CuC isn't going to be diversified enough. I'm also not saying you must have them, but they are far from useless.

    I've got about a 8-12 nassarius in my 55.

    Eventually they can :p:p
