I am going to be doing a bean animal on my 40b and had some questions. I will be doing 1" overflows with 1/2" return. My question was what should the demensions for the overflow box be?

Decided to wing it and go with 5" high and wide for the overflow area. Here is progress.

Bean Animal overflow...you know, the design with 2 overflow drains and 1 return? It's supposed to be safer and quieter than an overflow with just one drain. Less water going into each line.

Dimensions don't need to be anything exact. Basically just enough space for the elbow to be unscrewed, with a little bit of wiggle room. The water level in the overflow box will be just above the opening in the elbow.

Yup. Also includes a back up drain. So 3 total. Here is an update.

Oh yeah, bean animal has the back up drain too, while Herbie doesn't.

I hope you have room b/w the top of the overflow and the rim of the tank? You don't need much, just don't want the water level too high.

I can't tell from your pictures where the actual water level in the tank will be.

No worries. Here is a pic showing where the water level will be. Bought half an inch from the rim

    It looks good.
Having a little hard time keeping up with your threads. Id change the tittle of your build thread in "show off your tank" section. (you can change the tittle by editing the first post of the thread. Like "Mawnkeys 40B BeanAnimal question!" LOL) So others can see updates/questions/issues and you dont have to keep track of several threads at a time :)
