Just curious, I have a 10 gal QT tank that has been up for a couple months. I had a Possum Wrasse in it for 5 weeks, and now a Helfrichi Firefish is on its second week. It is BB, sponge filter from a 55 gal DT, Penguin 300 gpm HOB filter (from my FW days) and a Coralife 65 skimmer (replaced it on my 46 and so had it lying around). I have only changed a couple of gallons over the 7 weeks. Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate have all read 0. I have a Seachem ammonia detector, and ammonia, nitrite & nitrate tested using API kit.

I always see people needing to do daily WC to keep nitrates down, yet I have only changed water just to clean the bottom of the tank. My kit is new (I did just order a new one just to double check) and it read nitrite and nitrate as expected during cycling my tanks. I feed sparingly. Is this at all normal? Certainly not complaining, just seems weird.

congrats, but your filters are likely keeping up with the bioload. If you take the QT tank down, keep the filters running on your DT to keep the biofilter up on them;)
