My APC is about 6 years old. Are you sure the battery isn't the problem? Please explain how it is to dirty for pumps.

I think he's talking about the amount of noise from the inverter messing with the motor of the powerhead.

The draw was never the problem, it was always the frequency and I'm a hardware junkie so I don't trust cheap to protect my gear.

To extend the length of time the battery lasts can you cycle your pumps so that they aren't on constantly??? Just an idea.

Hmmm...could just be the type that you got. All I know is I have yet to have a problem with mine. Besides needing to replace the battery last year.

Just have your heater and one pump plugged in to the UPS. The purpose of using a UPS in case of a power outage is to sustain the tank. in order to do this you only need to have the essentials plugged in to the unit. A heater and a pump/powerhead. With the low wattage pumps out these days you should be fine for hours with these two things running.

I'll have to invest in a UPS then I guess.

I am running an APC SmartUPS 1400. I think they discontinued it. It use to be the backup for a programming system a friend had. 6 screens, two towers, and a whole lot of extras. Kept his system running for another 2-3 minutes. Plenty of time for him to save his work and shut down.

    mine is black:
