(Can someone please move this to the correct forum, if there is one where this would go?)

Are there any back ups that are battery powered, but can run multiple outlets? I mean in similarity to a surge suppressor you might use for your computer...but for our aquariums..and runs on batteries or some other alternative power source?

I am not in the money for a generator & am just looking for something to power many tank if there is an emergency, that will start up automatically. Yes there are back-ups that will run a few things, like the http://www.3reef.com/forums/reef-wh...at-ecotech-marine-battery-back-ups-90990.html. But they run those one or two things only.

yes, there are plenty of UPS' that power multiple outlets. they may not run more than a few hours though.

I use a battery backup from Best Buy, normally used for computers.

This one will run for like 45 minutes with everything except lights, and much longer if I go only flow pumps + heater, and even longer if I take out some of the flow pumps and heater.

It's cool, because it tells you how many watts your system is using too.

If you buy a quality UPS and limit what you run on it, it can last a long time.

Don't skimp on the unit itself or any replacement batteries. Like in reefing, you get what you pay for.

This is a good question. Is there any other packs that last for more than 24-36 hours? Living in South Florida has me freakin out now, in case of a hurricane and power outage.

I've tried half a dozen ups and none of them give out clean enough power to run a powerhead.

Not really, if you mean your whole tank. Don't forget that each device you plan on running will change the run time a large amount. I can run one powerhead for 5-6 hours, or my whole tank for 45 minutes.

Mine runs my powerheads just fine. Just not all of them at the same time when the power's out.

Buy a quality UPS and you will be able to run the essentials for a while. heater and one small powerhead.

The point of a UPS is to run the essentials during a power outage. not the entire tank. If you still only had one or two things plugged in to the UPs odd are you went cheap and bought a POS...TBH...

I guess the new ones are better. I've been running APC for many years and they were always too dirty for pumps.
