Well i lost my 55 this week, and now i've lost my mantis. He died during molt. He started locking himself away about 3 weeks ago. Two weeks ago last tuesday he disappeared into seclusion. I would still here him clicking and popping until last night.:-[ I checked on the tank today , and when i lifted the lid the smell hit me immediately, my 'trates were through the roof, that combined with the noise-less tank prompted me to check his den, and sure enough he was a goner. It's sad it happened so suddenly. He was a big guy at about 3 inches, i guess he just had a bad molt. My params were perfect as well as SPG. :bigcry:
I guess in this hobby when it rains it pours. I only had him for 2 months, but he was a great little guy to watch and own. I'll miss him dearly. Don't know what to do with that tank now. I'm too heartbroken to get another mantis anytime soon.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know how you feel I lost my guy Fister after having him for a year. The bigger they get the harder it is for them to molt.

If I were you I would keep the tank running. There is no telling when another mantis will find its way into your heart.

I lost my first mantis Princess to a bad molt :( Keep your chin up. Cause my LFS found a new mantis about a month after Princess died. They found him because he popped one of the employees when the guy was trying to move his rock, and the little guy was only about 5/8" long  I knew he was a keeper. And now he's catching up to Princess' size, but he's much more active and not shy at all, when she was more dormant and seclusive. I like him more ;) But Princess was still my first mantis.

Chin up :) I new friend will come along.

I'm sorry for your loss. :( But like said above keep your spirits up and a new one will come along. You may or may not know that I had one for only a month before it died and the next one was DOA. Carnicera is my third and so far so good but after the recent posts of bad molts I have mini panic attacks every time she shuts herself in now.
I hope a new friend finds it's way to you soon. :)

I'm sorry about your mantis Cupid. I would keep the tank running and leave Remington in there. I really hope you feel better bout Ruger.

I would do a major water change on the mantis tank. 20 to 30% since you only have Remington in there. He'll be happy about some freshly made, non-stinky saltwater and keep your eyes on your trates!

    Good luck!

Thank you all so much for your support. 2 things lost in one week was a bit of a shock to my poor little hippie heart. I miss my Eels, but most of all i miss him. I really miss seeing him popping his little eyes out of his hole and staring me down. :-(
    But alas such is life.
And Oh my goodness reefmonkey, i would've called it quits when the other arrived DOA. That would be such a heart breaker! But +k for hanging in there for another one. I hope she or he does well for you!
And Mag, thanks man. I did a 20% change yesterday, as the smell was horrible.
I think i'm going to buy some ricordea's or some zoa's to make me feel better ;-)
