Yeah, went bare bottom years ago and wouldn't go back. Sand beds are just ticking time bombs...

Interesting. I highly doubt I will find something like that in Trinidad but what if I use egg crate instead or at least egg crate below some of the live rock if not the entire area of the tank?

Same thing I was thinking some of my worst reef keeping encounters was with a sand bed. I was new in the hobby, had my tank set up for about 6 months and then I decided to vacuum my sandbed  hair algae all over the place.

I'm putting some par 30 LEDs over my sump and I need some help wiring them. I kinda have an idea but don't want to risk anything going wrong image.jpg I have three of them to wire onto one plug.
I think the hot and ground wire only goes to one fixture while the line wire splits to all three fixtures?

So, I have not done a tank on Quite that gallonage scale, but I have been doing this for a while. in all my tanks except my current one, I have had sand. I decided to go BB on my 66 gallon setup strictly because of maintenance. In the 4 months since I have owned this system, i have yet to regret it. well maybe I miss my melanarus, but overall, I love it. the bottom of my tank is really starting to cover itself in purple which is my ultimate goal. for my rocks, I acually used some spare chunks of acrylic I had laying around in the garage. I placed these at the bottom then stacked my rocks on top. they are nice and clear and it made a great safe surface to place my rocks on. I think they were 3/8" thick pieces. you barely notice them.

the beauty of the barebottom is you will endup with a few little areas that the detritus and Poo just gravitate to. I try to suck them to the filter sock weekly just before a sock change. seems to work well.

my current tank is a 66 gallon rimless tank. I evaporate what seems like almost a gallon a day. but it may be 5 gallons every 6 or 7 days. Still seems like alot given the 80 gallons of water in the system.

as for your lights there.. hook them in parallel to make them work. hot wire to one side of each socket, common to the others.

I am in the process of setting up a system of comparable size and have taken many ideas from Toddsails who has a build site for his system. You may want to check it out. It is a very simple system which is what makes it so elegant in my mind. It is very well thought out. I have no experience with BB
