does any one have any info on what all involves to make something to do water changes. I was thinking of something. here's what I have. have a drain that drains out water into a bucket, drum, etc with a float switch. when required water drains out it hits the switch which then turns a pump on with another switch when the amount of water pumped back in is reached the float switch shuts off the pump... am I on the right track?

I think so, but IMO, you will want to watch it carefully. Best to be there when it's doing this just to make sure it all goes off without a hitch (or flood, rather). If one of the switches were to fail, it could get ugly fast...

I am in the process of setting up a system of being able to do 50 percent w/c at a time if need be direct under my tank. I have the 220 with 100 gallons sitting 14 ft under it mixed ready to go one lever drains it and the other pumps it. I am still working on it with pics but its posible. I would not trust anything by itself.
