so i decided to do my own gravitationaly "powered" ATO. im pretty sure everything is right, the freshwater container is air tight and higher then the tank.

so for the help, how do i get it to start actually putting water into the tank when the water level goes below the tube?

Are you using an ATO with a feed and vacuum line?

Yes, plastic tube. If it has a tube for water and a vacuum tube that goes below the surface. You should be able to blow into the vacuum tube to start the siphon.

ok so it turns out it wasnt air tight :/ im trying a new approach, i cut a hole in the container and put the tube through it, can i use superglue/gorilla glue, as a sealent?

Glue may seal it. I would be worried about the container leaking and losing vacuum though. Make sure to test it well before hooking it up to the tank.

There are a couple other cheap alternatives like float switches and float valves. I use this cheap switch and a powerhead for an ATO. It was cheap and works well. Float valves are even cheaper since they can be gravity fed.

Trying to rig up a similar type of system... could you post a pic or 2?

Your idea intrigues me... I have been thinking of somethig very similar.
