after a recent salinity issue (ran past 1.040 im suprised anything is alive in my tank) i've been looking into some ATO ideas, most of which or for bigger tanks, nothing really to fit my lil 8 gal. so i was wondering if anyone has experience/ideas with ATO's on already running biocubes.

    Thanks

I don't have a biocube, but I love my tunze osmolator. The sensor mounts are tiny and I think they will fit in the back of your biocube.

You will probably have to set up a gravity fed ATO then. You can make a simple one if you can put an air tight container higher than the biocube. Then run airline from the container to just below the surface of the water. When the water goes below the airline, air will go up the tubing and in to the container. In return, water will fill the biocube until no more air is making it to the container.

This will prolly run you about $8.

so how about a nice sized tubberware container with a top, that has a hole in it, get a tube, put the tube in and seal it with some super glue or something?

    gotta love being cheap :)

As long at the container has an air tight seal it will work. use bulkheads and not superglue.

A biocube should not have evaporation, since it is closed system..There may be a little, but if there is anything you should be able to top off by hand. I have two biocubes and the salinity in both tanks stay the same all the time.

Do you have stock biocube? or did you take off the hood and do something to it?

its stock, i figured the same thing but in a weeks the person taking care of my tank accidently "topped off" with saltwater and thus my salinity rose through the roof... my hydrometer read greater then 1.04 and i calibrated with freshwater and my lfs's water

Okay, then what you need to do is just take out some water and replace it with freshwater slowly and get your salinity back in check. You can get a ATO but i mean, if there is no evaporation, the ATO wont do anything. Just replace some saltwater in your DT with some fresh RO/DI water and do that slowly and test your water while you are doing it and get it down to a safe level. But if you do it too fast, alot of things will get stressed out badly and possibly even die due to the change in salinity so quickly, especially the inverts in the tank.
