So currently running an swc160 and love it. But increasing bio load is making me think about a bigger skimmer. SWC says max 150gal.
    Where the g3 says 250.

But I know my swc pulls a lot of gunk! Will the g3 be an improvement?

Also are hydor 1005 any good? Someone wants to trade me.

I have recently read a few things about skimmer and sizes concerning size and possibly to large of a skimmer.

For me I like to have a skimmer rated a little higher than tank size so for my 30 gal I went with a skimmer rated up to 75.

For my 135 I am looking at skimmer rated for 200gal.

So you skimmer right now is probably working most of the time producing good skim and tends to keep your organics around a certain level.

If you go larger/to large and do no increase load then you larger skimmer will remove the current load faster but may get to a point where it creates a minimal head and skim amount will be reduced as the skimmer levels off the organics in the tank.

So is the g3 to large (based on your current load) probably not.

As always I would wait for other opinions because my parents told me young I do not know everything (damn)

Haha well i figure the swc is underated. It says max 150 with lite load. I have easily 150gal and i would say moderate-heavy load. So thinking a bigger skimmer is in the making.

Are your nitrates rising? Or do you have any other reason to believe your skimmer is not keeping up? If nitrates aren't high/rising then I would save the cash. If things change you can always get the new skimmer later.

bumping this up for you to try to get some expert opinions. There are alot more knowledgable people when it comes to the skimmers. Surprised Vinny has not chimed in..

I dont really test my water. As long as my corals look fine. I just am thinking adding more bio load. Increase skimmer size. The whole take out what you put in theory lol

Have a guy offering to trade me a hydor 1005 skimmer. Things rated for like 400gal. Anyone know if they are any good?
