Like so many others have said its usually when they have not enough space. I have 2 yellow a purple, hippo, vildare(sp) tangs in my tank and they all play nice other then occasionally I might get one of them brushing my hand when feeding as they are not shy to me and dont bite me just the food even out of my hand they eat.

I will never own another yellow tang. the one I had was a junk yard dog. it didnt like new comers and was mean to existing fish. this was in my 75 with a small specimen. that fish was evicted and replaced with a purple. it was slightly more tolerant.

my purple now is a bully. he didnt like the new butterfly I added but after 24 hours, you cannot tell any aggression.
