Are reef octopus and SWC skimmers made by the same company?

I am looking to purchase the skimmer or the Octo. I'm not sure if this is a Canadian forum, but it has the feel. I'm new here so bear with me.

Can either of these skimmers be bought from a LFS or strictly on line? I live in the Hamilton, Ontario are.

Also a little off topic but I'm also look for a 65g or more sump/refugium. Any ideas other than the LFS.

    Thanks for help,
    Appreciate it,
    Terry

Welcome, it isn't Canadian, the company is though. You can get Octopus online or anywhere really I suppose. Stores carry them. SWC too. SWC is Salt Water Connection out of Canada, not sure where. You can e-mail them at their site.

We have craigs list here, not sure about Canada eh.

Companies can be based in certain countries, but contract out their part manufacturing to other companies.

I'll have to disagree with that. ATB uses a more slender cone than most other companies. The most obvious of the knock offs is I-Tech. (even though plenty say at this point they are different and refined enough to stand on their own) However, SWC has put out plenty of cones before the 120 and 160 and none had the slender cone. These are small skimmers and different designs than the ATBs.

Not to mention... ATB did not invent the cone. Bubble King actually was the first to build them. ATB was the first company to market a very refined design and they have been riding that wave every since. Big fan, but they didn't invent them.

I just got a SWC DNW-150 and it has an octopus pump and even the lid has the octopus on it. On some sites they will advertise an SWC, but when you click on the picture a Reef Octopus picture comes up. ???

SWC does not make a DNW-150... That is an Octopus. If some site have messed up pages or advertising...don't really know... but that is not a SWC and they are not interchangable.

I'm not disagreeing, but here is the skimmer I just received. The pump and collection cup lid both have pictures of the Octopus on them, but....
Here's a pic of the box:
