Really matters what type of coral you plan on keeping. Some need intense light and will loose color if they are very deep. My tank is 30" tall and I have rock about 8" from the top. Just think about what you plan on keeping. :)

Well said Otty. Also consider the height of the corals you will add. Many corals are stuck onto sometimes large pieces of rock too. When I started my first reef, I piled the rocks up high. Then when it was time to add corals, I ended up having to pull out the rocks to position the corals correctly..

    Hi,
I agree with both of you. I piled mine high and then have trouble trying to find a place for the coral with the rocks, which I seem to like buying. Personaly I would go a little higher.

Good points. Also you'll have a little more swimming room for the fishies too. ;)

hey Matt, I was reading your post and realized your location, I was born and raised on 23rd and lincoln Ave by the Veteran's Hall, I go back on leave to Richmond every now and again. When I tell my southern friends that I live in Richmond they think VA, so I ask em if they have seen Coach Carter and tell em that is were I am from.. they dont expect a white boy from the Ghetto to be into rock and country :)

what are you using to affix your rocks to each other?

It looks good the way it is now, but like whateverybody else said, you gotta think about what corals you plan to have, some fish like a lot of room to swim around. As for corals being on huge rocks...Thats what frags are for. Buy them small and most times pretty cheap, and you can get them off their plugs/disks fairly easily and then you dont have to worry about aquascaping all over again cause of one coral, and you dont risk something collapsing or corals falling onto each other and potentially damaging each other.

Amount of rock area is going to determine how much coral you are going to keep eventually (plan for growing room) - which is a trade off with swimming space for your fish...(again plan for growing swim space requirement)

It is a pure and simple trade-off. I would keep tank as is...but be planning to adjust as needed later.

    It looks Great!
