AquaC Protein Skimmer Problem, please help

i had my protein skimmer for about 3 months...the noise had never gone down and lately there are more tiny bubbles.

Also i realize there is a problem with it lately. The water is clear in the collection cup instead of yellow like before. It also fills up very quick! I just emptied the cup like 1hr ago and is already full now(clear water). Is there something wrong?

Also how to make it quieter and less bubble? I have read people folded paper tower but not sure where am i suppose to put it. Any advice?

it overflowing could be a result of it being in to much water. teh noise I have no idea other than the impeller may need to be replaced or the pump cleaned.

 

If it's pulling too much water, you need to adjust the height of the collection cup, using the black rubber band. The higher the lower the collection cup, the more it will pull. Raise it by about 1/2 of an inch at a time, and see what your results are.

 

Thanks for the input, what about the tiny bubbles...i just bought a kessil led light for my tank and the bubbles are so visible now.

I actually cleaned it 3 days ago and now still doing the same even i tried different levels.


So is it broken?

 

Take the collection cup out,remove the white screw in the top of the spray injector assembly and use the brush that came with the skimmer to clean the injector itself.

Other than the pump there are no moving parts,so it has to be the pump (bad or dirty,caked with calcium,if dirty or caked,run pump in vinigar to clean,rinse well afterwords) or the injector is partially clogged and/or the whole unit is dirty with build up.After a thorough cleaning,it may need to break in again.

And you are aware that blue hippo and valentini puffer need to find new homes very soon?

 

The paper towel goes in the section (underneath the collection cup) where the injector is located. Make sure not to use too many layers as the air still needs to be able to pass through the paper towel so the injector can force the air into the water column.

 

The pump is fine, i brought it to my regular LFS since i told them it is very loud. They told me to bring it in and they check and said is not dirty and should not be the problem. They think it is kinda loud though compared to MaxiJet 1200 they experienced.

I bought my Blue Hippo from another fish shop and they died after 3 days. I believe is the shop's water and condition is not that good. Everything is self serve there. I also bought some RO/DI water and some sea water from them along with the blue tangs. The day after i added the water, i tested the water and noticed there is ammonia in my tank. This was never happen since i started the tank 3 months ago. On the same day, my blue tangs died. I will never go back there again. I still have some left over water from that shop, and I will be testing that water in a min.

For the Blue Hippo, i had it since i started the tank. It was fine and i like him a lot. I was going to donate him to my LFS, since i wanted to get some shrimps.The owner actually gave me $15 store credit for it.


Btw, thanks for the advice, I will do the cleanning for the skimmer again and see will it help.

One of the worker at my LFS said today that maybe there isnt any organic for my skimmer to skim. How can this be true since my sea urchin poops every other min. LOL

 

I tried but still kinda loud...I used my iphone app and tested the Decibel and is about at 56 and when filter and skimmer is off is at 46.
