I'm considering upgrading to two AI Sol Blue Modules for my 95 Gallon Wave tank, I figured I could mount them around 12" above the water's surface and orient them lengthwise for enough spread. I know AI recommends one module per 12" in length oriented vertically, but that seems like overkill, especially given that the tanks I've seen using this method have to lower the output into the 50-60% range to avoid bleaching their coral.

Edit: Planning on a mixed reef set-up, I'd like to keep high light SPS from the top of the rock work to 12" below the water, LPS and some softies anywhere below that. The upgrade is from a no-name fixture running 2 x 175w MH and 2 x 110w VHOs.

    Opinions, suggestions, alternatives?

If you switch the optics for 70º you should be fine. AZDesertRat has 2 over a 60" tank.
