Unions are meant for PVC and I don't know if unions are made for flex tubing, which is what I think this adjustable slip joint is made for. It uses the same kind of connections, as flex tubing.

I would definitely not suggest using these with PVC plumbing, if that's what you are thinking about.

The other thing that made me think of using them was that my parents have a solar heater on their pool that uses PVC and when the contractors installed the pipes, they used these connectors in spots.

In the item description it says ..

"Maximum working pressure of 4.3 psi"

So yer not gonna want to use that on a return line at all as the head height alone would max that..

It also notes it's meant for drains so yeah it would "work" as it does say metal, plastic etc ...

Oh hang on - did they use flex PVC or the standard PVC? If flex PVC, then yes, it should work for the material. Not sure if head height would make a difference.

They are, in fact, designed for PVC as they require a rigid pipe for the clamp to seal and hold properly; however, I'm not so sure that they are completely inert to saltwater- it may cause the rubber to dry-rot over time.

I wouldnt use it for the reason it is a no hub coupling, it is for sewer lines. It wouldn't be rated for potable water. They do make what called a PVC dressor coupling that is rated for pressure and potable water. It cost is like 4 bucks at lowes.

I have and only on your drain lines and as multiple sump connections, not anything where you will have major pressure.

I would only be using it on the drain lines, not the return. I have a union check valve for the return.
