I've been surfing the internet looking at tank lighting and ran into these bulbs, there just like any other CFL, but 10" long and 105watts, do you think 4 of these plus some actinics over a 125 would work for beginner corals? COMPACT FLOURESCENT LIGHT BULBS; Standard & SHO CFL aquarium bulb, double socket. they say its comparable to a 525 watt Standard bulb, i'm guessing thats a incandescent bulb.

I have seen them. The comparison is to standard fluorescent bulbs. Remember the light is going to be like a spot light. I would think they will work for low and medium light requiring corals just fine..

If you can, put your money into something that you can use over & over again, otherwise, it'll wind up on the "unused" pile of equipment. If I could get rid of old/unused/inadequate equipment I bougth thinking I could save a buck......I'd have room enough for another tank & maybe enough to buy the new tank.

Try going for a 6 bulb T5 unit. They aren't half as expensive as they used to be. You can get a nice fixture for 300 bucks. Shop around!!!

    Good luck! 8)
