Last weekend my girlfriend was talking about drive-in movies so I was all why don't we go? I have never been to a drive-in, didn't even enough they still existed. Luckily there is a pretty popular one an hour away from where I am. So what the heck we went!

Left the house around 4:30pm, got there around 5:00pm, ate, played some mini golf (I'm really bad at it, was up with 20 strokes to 30, and the game ended with 55 strokes to 40.. I blame the giant Spongebob in the way)

Got our tickets, didn't know there were 5 screens playing two movies each. So We watched Mr. Poppers Penguins and X-men First Class. They were pretty good. Awesome part was tickets were only $6 a person, for TWO movies! And mini golf was $3 per person! Let's not talk about the snacks.. ::)

Apparently there are around 4 drive-ins left in the big state of Texas, so it was nice having one just an hour from Dallas. Got back home at 2:30 though.

Anyone else been to a drive-in recently? I would say if you can find one nearby, go for it. Its a pretty fun experience and who knows when they will all shut down.

Our closest drive-in is about an hour away. They got rid of the speakers on poles. You need to bring your own radio and tune it to a specific frequency. Drive ins are a LOT of fun if you still have one near you.

Where is the drive in near us? St. Louis I assume?

American auto industry killed the drive in with invention of center consoles btw. lol

lol yea.. kinda, but I know a lot of people still go, its totally worth it. Its like getting two movies for the price of one. And its awesome if you have a truck just load up the bed with pillows and blankets and snuggle in the back!

There are only a handful left in the entire country. I, for one, LOVE the Drive-in and was fortunate enough to have THREE within an hour's drive of my parent's house when I was little. Now there is only ONE of those three left - but on a busy Friday night - they actually have to turn people away because they are over capacity. And two movies for the same price!!! Can't be beat!

You can bring your own "beverages" and snacks while sitting in a chair that you know is not laden with the "remnants" of 1000 movie-goers.

    lol nice.

Drive-in's were touted by the media in the 70s as "Passion Pits" lol - goes hand in hand with your observations!!!

The one I went to still had the speaker thing on the pole you hang on your door. I think all they did was change out the internals for more modern parts but keeping the body looking retro. I thought it was pretty awesome, also had a volume knob!
