So I grew up swimming, and I Mt. biked for 15 years, but I HATE running. Did I mention I can't stand it? Well I have been sitting on my butt for a few years now... went to the gym and got a wild hair up my butt, got on the tread mill and ran 5 miles. Well that wasn't too bad, so I got some proper shoes. The reason I hate running is it destroys my ankles. So the store said I overpronate and gave me some proper shoes.... no hurt ankles after another 5 miles. Humm...

So now I'm getting another wild hair to go out and do some Triathalons. Love the swim and bike and if I can just get the run I'll be good. First one would be in June. Last year I rode my first century on a bike just to say I did it. Basically got straight off the couch and did it with a buddy. It wasn't real pretty, but I did it. Bonked last 10 miles, pissed me off. Figured I could actually do some training and get off my lazy rear and get back in shape. Thought maybe two warm up olympics in June and July and a half iron man in August.

Any experience out there, am I totally crazy??? The answer is yes, but am I being unrealistic about this?

i can pm you a link to a good running program that i am using to train for a 13 mile run if youd like. most triathalons arent a a super long run. it seems the last one i participated in was less than 5 miles running.
it is all very achievable, powerman. the main thing is to not stop when you are tired. just continue practicing and you will get stronger every time

Thanks guys. A Olympic distance is 1500m swim (.93miles), 24.8 mile ride, with a 6.2 mile run. A half iron man is basically double that. (A Ironman is just crazy) I think it's achievable. Certainly not getting off the couch to do one. I'll have to do a some training. A friend of mine started running so I can get some help from him. He's done a couple marathons.

So how are all the triathletes doing???

I jumped in with both feet and have been doing well. Training is going good. Dropped 15 lbs. With maybe 5 more to go. Runs have been going well. Looking forward to June... it's going to be busy. 100K ride, 10 mile race, first Sprint tri. Be a good judge of where I'm at for August. Can't wait to get some open water swims in.

    Anyone else in training?

My training is going well still lacking on the swim but I have till sept to get it down, im normally a cyclist but just wanted to jump right in on a half ironman tri :) I also have a centry and a half cycling event in aug that im preping for so i just ride double the distance i need for the tri.

I Just recently found a book thanks to one of the marthon runners at my gym and it covers the ferman method and I only have to run 3 days a week so thats a huge plus and its not super long periods of time either.

What's the Ferman method. I think I'm progressing good. Really I'm only getting in 2 SBRs a week. Want more. I'll probably hitting the bike more now the weather is good. Still don't care for running, but it's going. no serious issues. I have no desire to to do a marathon, but a half is good. Just want to run enough to put in a good time.
