I am debating either red leg (mexican) or scarlet reef.

Are these guys really all that bad regarding snail murdering?

This important topic is now open for discussion.

I've always been told scarlets are the least aggressive. I have a bunch and I've never had one murder a snail in almost 2 years. But I have a lot of extra shells in my tanks for them.

Is it correct to say that there is a low probability they can get nerite or trochus?
Will they mess with Nassarius? If it is just ceriths they have a high success rate eating?

If you keep lots of extra empty shells, they won't bother to kill a snail to get one. They are lazy in that regard.

Keep extra shells & make sure they're not starving to death. I've never seen a hermit kill a snail, and I've had hermits (lots of them) in every tank I've ever had. I've had red legs, blue legs, left-handed (zebra), and a very large thin-striped.

Thanks everyone! I think I will try some scarlet reef. How many for a biocube 14?
    I was thinking like 2.

My CUC will ultimately be (maybe I will add some more cerith or maby mini cerith)

    4 nas snail
2 trochus <--- my favorite by far these guys are awesome
    4 nerite
    5 cerith
    2 scarlet reef
maybe some 2 shrimp like a blood and cleaner

I am open for suggestions if this doesnt look good for any reason

I have 6 hermits and none has killed a snail. They are awesome when it comes to picking the sand of fallen food particles.

+1 more to hermits not killing snails...I have them (red & blue legs)in all my tanks and have had no problems, I do keep extra (larger) shells around for them.
