So I've been looking at batfish and I even saw one at my LFS and to me they are very unusual yet attractive at the same time. Are there any special requirements for them besides a large tank?

Well, it has to be a deep tank, too, they can get 18" to 24" tall! I love these fish, but I don't think I'll ever buy one as they're rated difficult and they're known to eat corals. Been lusting after them for years, though!

Here's a link with some info on my favorite one (they all pretty much say the same, except the biggest one is the easiest one LOL): Pinnatus Batfish

Oh yeah the pinnatus batfish is the one I saw; very beautiful specimen indeed. I wasn't aware of depth being a big factor, so thanks for that. I most likely wouldn't keep one in a reef tank; I did know they nipped at some kinds of corals. I'd probably just make it a species tank and keep 1 with like very little LR, or so I've read that it's recommended not to put too much.

Yeah, I saw that too on the live rock. The Pinnatus is just awesome looking, isn't it? If you ever get one, take LOTS of pics! :D

no problem lol. How many gallons would this fish need? I'm pretty sure that height and length would need to be really important.

I think it said 180. It'd definitely have to be a really tall tank.

they dont do well in a tank with current. they need calm waters or they will blow all over the place with those massive fins.

for a pinataus to be truely happy they need to be in like 300+ with 3. we studied them at my aquarium, they have a (fish only) 200,000 gallon tunnel aquarium. and becareful adding certain fish, they may nip at the fins
