I have had them all 4 in there for about 4 months. All are about 3-4 inches long and extreamly healthy. I am very picky on what I feed and only use pellets and a nori treat 1 or 2 times a month.

I lose Clowns for some reason. Cant seem to keep them to save my life /shrug

That is most likely the reason they are all still happy. You may have to plan ahead to trade some out when they get bigger. They are not even close to maturity at 3-4 inches long. You could keep four in a forty gallon when they are that age. Bio load is not really the issue with tangs its the space they need to move around and the territory they are going to claim.

It looks as if the Orangs Shoulder truly needs more space, sadly when I go to the LFS, I have money and they are there to sell-my ignorance is just another sale at the register.
It looks like the Purple should do ok but the Orange would be "happier" in a larger tank, actually happier is not the correct word, "better" is more like it. Happier would have been "Leave me in the F'n Ocean" Mr Fish with the air tank on your back and fins to swim:uzi:

    Thanks everyone,

Now I need to find a place to post that Dotty hosting my flower pot, the fish hangs out there all day guarding his flower pot-Its hilarious, ok Ill throw it in here, Im like a kid in the candy shop

gotta love all these tang threads. I am planning on adding 2 tangs to my 6' 125 tank and to be honest i think thats pushing it. it really boils down to individual fish behavior, and wether or not you can feel comfortable with where you think your fishs stress level is at. your tangs might be fine one day, then the next get stressed and nuke your tank with ich.

come on, 4 tangs in a 90 gallon tank? have you ever seen a full grown naso tang in person? they get massive and I wouldnt dream of keeping one without an 8' 240+ gallon tank. but to each their own i guess.

Naw I am moving to a new house soon. With my taxes this year I am going to put a in-wall if it all goes right.

    Edit:

It will take YEARS before the Naso is full size. I have had him the longest and he has grown maybe a 1/4 of an inch. Plus Have you ever seen a full grown Naso with trailers in a tank? I have and know that if I get him that big I can sell him for a grand if not more.

Well now that I am knee deep in the brown stuff.........

Any great methods of "catching" a tang in 5 Gallon that has 140lbs of LR.

I'll leave the net in the tank, starve the fish for 2 days, remove the lights so I have "less" obstruction, throw a cube of Spirulina(sp?)Brine and hope I get her in the first try, if not-Game Over for me.

At least I read about Mandarins, and realized my tank will never be a refuge for a mandarin-no fuge.

    Would love to hear ideas on how to catch her-My wife decided its a female. Maybe a new thread;
"How to catch a Tang" sort of "catchy" name pun inteneded;D

The three tangs in my 150 gallon do pretty well. They bicker every now and again but they usually swim side by side. I make sure the back of the rock is completely hollow also so they have swimming room. I want another tang but there's no way I would do it. I think 1 tang in a 72 is a little risky, I think more than one is a disaster waiting to happen and yes I consider having to trade my fish in because it's too big for my tank a disaster. To me that's equivilent to trading your dog in because it got too large. I'm not sure what I would do if I had to part with one of my tangs because they are the life of my tank and the sole purpose of me going so large. If it had been only for a reef tank, I would have been glad to do a 90 gallon or so. BTW I had my Leutenant tang in a 90 gallon for close to a year. Just he and a puffer and in there. When I moved him to the 150 it was like a new fish. An amazing transformation.

In my 155, I have 5, and they all get along great!

    3 Yellow Tangs
    1 Powder brown Tang
    1 Hippo Tang.

They all have pleanty of rock to play/hide in. I should mention that my Flame Angel hangs with all of them and even sleeps near/next to the Hippo. I am sure way in the future they might get to big for the tank, but for now its wonderful!
