Well, we got some bad thunderstorm yesterday and that knocked out power to a bunch of people in the Philadelphia area. It happened around 4pm. I wasn't too worried as the temperature outside wasn't too cold, it was actually quite warm and my tank has been without power for hours before. However, the power is still out and my dad called and said that it may not be back on until tomorrow night. It's not too bad as I have the generator going right now. It's powering my powerheads a heater, plus the refrigerators. The temp did drop last night to about 70, but that's not too bad. I wrapped the tank in blankets to keep the heat in, that worked pretty well. Everyone is still alive as far as I can tell, but I'm at work right now. My dad's going to give the generator a rest for a little while then kick it back on later this afternoon, I hope to have some actinics on so I can feed the fish. Overall, I'm not nearly as stressed as when the power went out during the winter, however, this will probably be the longest time my tank has been without power, right now, going on 18 hours and will probably be much longer. I'm just glad we do have a generator so I can at least for periods of time keep the water heated and moving and then power the lights for a little bit. I know you guys will understand the feeling.

Yeah that storm was pretty crazy. I was on the 12'th floor of my office building in Philly and within 10 minutes it from a bright sunny 95 degree day to looking like a tornado was coming. We could literally see a wall of water sweeping into the city from a half mile out. Like you said it was pretty chaotic for 10 minutes and then it was sunny again. I heard it knocked out a good portion of the Septa rail for rush hour. Pretty glad I drove in.

Hope the power comes back soon and everything makes it. Having the generator really helps out in those situations. Kinda considering getting a backup solution for those kind of situations my self. Everything in my area seemed to make it through fine. By time I got home from work it looked liked it barely rained.

good luck Guitarman- hope its on soon and everything is OK

naturally our instincts are all tank related, and we can forget what an awful inconvenience having no power can be

is everything in the home electric, or do you have some gas for cooking, water heating, etc?

Sounds like your doing everything you can. I hope for the best ending to the outage! If it makes you feel any better I went through an outage that lasted 51 hours last January. My generator ran the entire time and I covered the tank as soon as I realized the power wasnt coming back on. I didn't lose anything.

Wow, that's a long time. I have one power head basically at the surface for airation. I also scoped up and poured back in tank water to airate it the best I could. Luckily, I don't have a huge bioload IMO.
