I posted here a few weeks ago about my BTA that split. Anyway, both seem to be doing fine at this point except my clown only hosts in one so I have to feed the other in order to keep it healthy (small piece of silverside every week).

My question is, considering I really don't want to feed the other anem because I feel that they usually do better with a clown, would anyone risk getting another type of clown (have a Ocellaris now) to hopefully host in the other anem? I know that most dont' recommend mixing species but what do you think? Should I give it a shot? (was thinking of a B/W Ocellaris)

Also thought of putting another Ocellaris but I would think if they pair up, they would then both host the same anem.

    Thanks!

If you got a black one, that wouldn't be mixing species ;) They are the exact same species, just a color morph ;)

Clownfish and anemones are NOT.....I repeat NOT......a symbiotic relationship.

Clowns do not feed their anemones. Yes the anemone will get fish poop to eat but that is just an accident that happens because the clownfish is always there. You need to feed that one too.

When anemone's split, it is not a good thing. It's a survival mechanism. They don't really "think" in our sense of the word but if they did, the hope is that if they split, there's a better chance of it surviving. Now comes the hard part. Why did yours split?
    Not enough food?
    Not enough light?
    Poor water conditions?

I think there are a lot of folks here that will disagree with what you stated. I'm no expert and am always looking for what others recommend with certain things and from what I have read in other threads, some people think its bad to split and others think it's a good thing so lets leave it at that.

Otherwise, all params are good, lighting is sufficient and even before it split, I did feed the anemone a nice chunk of silverside every 3 weeks or so.

My first post was a little incorrect with saying that I don't want to feed - what I should have said was "don't want to feed often"
