No, it's not. Those were all meant as questions. I don't get the concern. I might be concerned if I knew, for example, they are endangered. Or have their own economy. So I'd like to know.

I readily admit IMO they are not worth the trouble and just a dead end. And I know when I hear someone buying one how that story is going to likely end.

But why do we care? I know how the story will end for the feeder fish too. Again, a higher life form than the nem.

(of course, P has 3 nems that went through my cycle and were in my buddy's tank for several years prior to that)

Ok...Now I know where you are coming from. I dont know how to answer that question. I think it has to come from the individual, and how you view certain things. I see your point though. I would not eat my dog, but I would eat a cow. I think it comes down to the suffering for no reason thing for me. I only feed frozen, but here goes. Is it cruel to capture and kill those Mysis for food..If used for food..IMO no. Is it cruel to let a nem rot away in your tank for no good reason...yes....Just the way I look at it. Everyone is different. That is why they make Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream!!:)

In my experience most common clownfish will pretty much try to host anything. In the wild they do have specific anemones but I think it doesn't matter in captivity.

my pair of sebae clowns host a small cavern between rock and substrate ....they love it. Their nem (my 3rd) shriveled up a few weeks ago. Bring on the torches! ...Frogspawn!

I can agree with you on some points, but there have been some decent reasons to stop, maybe not really convincing

I assumed you where referring to my comments on this issue.
And to answer you. You are wrong! People very well can do what they want!! any time any place. Now does that mean that I think they should? ofcourse not!! but they can. Just like any idiot can pick up a gun and go decide he wants to kill someone. Any human including any person on this forum is capable of this at anytime (if he/she so chose.) Thats what I meant by "people can do what they want" not that they "should" but they "could" and there is little you or I can do about it. There are endangered species all over the world that are protected by laws to save them, yet there are still people that decide to break these laws and hunt them anyway.

SO that was my whole point. I dont neccessarily agree people should take anything out of the Ocean, including an anenome but when it comes down to it... I cant stop them and neither can you. So its pointless to try! The only thing you can do is try to educate someone and hope they make the best decision for that he choses to do.

Hmmm...I have a Sebae and LTA and they seem to be doing fine (colored up nice and growing like hell) but this thread is making me second guess having them.

I have a Sebae for over a year it does just fine. With that said it had killed some of my corals..boo... My clowns bounce between it and the Golden toadstool. They look nice but are over rated. I will at some point bring it to one of the beaches near me and put it back where it belongs.

To each their own. An opinion is an opinion and that is what makes 3reef so great. You can always get multiple views from very knowledgeable people and make you own decision. We have all made mistakes and killed one thing or another.

    Keep on reefing

I agree folks can do whatever they want, but that is not the same thing as being entitled to it. That is very different. "should" and "could" have nothing to do with entitlement. You didn't address entitlement in your response. I don't recall if you were the one that used the word 'entitled' earlier or not; if you were, then you used it incorrectly.

It's not exactly just semantics, the word has more meaning than just "free to do it". a 'freedom' is something there is no law against (you're free to go to the store today, free to open a bank account, free to not vote in elections, etc.), a 'right' is something there is a law specifically granting (you have a right not to be discriminated against for employment, a right to vote, the Bill of Rights, etc), an entitlement is something that you have written proof of a claim to. (the title to your car entitles you to sell it if you so wish, a U2 ticket entitles you to enter the concert).

Being free to take nem's out of the ocean is not an entitlement. To say so is wrong. It may be a freedom, but it is definitely not an entitlement. People are not entitled to do whatever they want. That is just incorrect usage of the word. That is my point. People are free to do it, not entitled.

I hear folks say things like "I have a right to take anemones"... No, you do not. You have a freedom to do it, as it is not against the law, but that is not a right nor entitlement.
