American Iwaki is loud

I have a Reeflo Snapper main return pump, this pump is silent, you cant hear it at all.

I recently purchased a Iwaki 40RLT american. This thing sounds like a 747 in my basement, its brand new and noisy.

I wanted to know if there was a small external pump like an iwaki that is much quieter , id prefer 3/4 in 3/4 out the the 40RLT.

How much quieter is the japanese model ? is it as quiet as a reefflo ?

Im considering using a reeflo but that would be way to much pump i assume.

I only have a 45 gal DT with a 30 gal sump.

Im specing out for a bigger DT in the future. prob a 90 gal.

Id love a small quiet pump that compares to a 40 RLT.\

Any suggestions would be great

I cant say the Japanese motor is silent... but its pretty darn close to silent! lol

 

We have used these on numerous builds and they run near silent...

 

Our American one is very quiet as well. Like super quiet. I have the exact same model as you.

 

That's odd. I had an American 20 and could never tell it was on. I always had to put my hand on it to see if it was vibrating. Maybe something wrong...

 

Should I send it to Iwaki..

I tell you this thing is loud for a pump, i can hear it from the top of the basement staircase. Its pushing a Skimmer, I have it mounted on a rubber mat to absorb the noise.

Maybe something is out of wack, I would not know where to begin ?

 

Is it loud like gushing water loud or rocks in a rock crusher loud?

 

I just installed an american Iwaki and I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Going from a mag 9.5 it's like the difference betwwen a 60's muscle car and a lexus. Near dead silet - love it.
