Sounds like a great, mature well thought out plan. Lots of great advise in the responses as well.

I have a 90gal. reef and a 24 nano reef. I spend more time working on the nano then I do the 90. I have since become a nano hater.

I've never owned a nano, but it seems to me that it may be more difficult due to its size to keep parameters well in check. A larger tank at least allows for more wiggle room, and less time spent, if the necessary things are automated correctly, such as ATO, calcium/alk supplements, etc. I find that if left alone, reef tanks can flourish... it's our desire to constantly tweak things that can send them outta wack.

Then again, many years ago, before I owned my current tank, I had a sump-less 55 gallon that I tried to keep a reef in, and it didn't work out so well, and it was a constant battle, so if that is your situation, I can understand wanting to throw in the towel.

FWIW, my reasoning is that having a tank means I'm spending more time at home, but less time watching TV.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
This kind of defeated the purpose of me going nano, but I have a lot if diversity. Now instead of one large system I have three small ones LOL. This thread has made me see the errors of my ways:)

    Thanks for all the ideas.
My 90 is currently doing pretty good. No issues really. I have a ato so some stuff is kinda easy.
More or less I'm sick of cleaning the glass, skimmer cleaning. I have always wanted to build a nano.
My 90 is more or less my first tank so there are corals that I just bought cuz I could. So most are average at best.

Now that I know more I was hoping to build a 10g. 4t5 fixture, ato, hob filter. I would have minimal rock inside for a unique aquascape. And I really wanna try to put a shadow box behind it for depth.
And this tank I would put nice corals. Higher end ones once I got it stabalized. I would have mayyyybe one fish so I wouldn't really worry about high nitrates or anything. Just clean the glass and do a 1 or 2 gallon water change every Thursday when my daughter stays at her aunts for the night.

Sounds like you have a good plan there DBOSHIBBY. I also, had a nano before I built my larger, current system. I spent a lot moe time each week keeping up with my nano. I like the larger system A LOT more. You gotta do what ya gotta do though! Good luck to you sir.

I am someone with similar time constraints with a 90 Gallon but I don't feel like it is that time consuming. I get by fine with a 20 gallon water change once a month that takes an hour. My refugium, ATO, and Skimmer help all of that. I don't dose probably because I am light on corals, and don't have any filter media to worry about. I use a magnetic glass cleaner that takes less than 5 minutes to run over the glass. It seems to me like the set-up and establishing of the tank is when it is more time consuming which is what you will have by setting up a new tank. I like to play with/change things in the tank from time to time which is a nice distraction from everything else.

Well all of the advice given is great.
Did some more thinking the last few days and I decided I will be starting a nano and taking the 90 down.
Made my first trade last night 4 chunks of rock and my hollywood stunner chalice for a older model mp10.
This 10 I'm gunna build should be pretty cool.
    Build thread coming soon!!
