    heres the scoop.
my 90g has been running for about 6 months (transfered everything from my 8months old 55)
i think im gunna tear it down.
my life has seemed to much to take care of this tank.
my 3 year old, fiance and dogs are my priority right now and i feel like my 90 is getting in my way. im getting married next year and we are trying to get things ready for the wedding and i just dont have time for it anymore.

now the question. i was thinking about taking the tank down and selling the contents but keeping the tank, stand, sump, skimmer, and lights. in the next 3 years or so we want to move and the next house for sure will have a basement. im thinking fish tank room.

in the mean time i was thinking about setting up a small nano to ease my reef cravings. i know it may be just as much work as the 90 but i think if its smaller i can wip out a cleaning and water change in as much time as it takes me to clean the glass on my 90.

    what do you guys think?
i may regret taking the 90 down but i will still have it in the garage for the future.

    heres a pic

With my 120 g system, much is automated... so the 40 g system takes more time to take care of... so, if the reason to take it down is about the work, you may not buy yourself much when you setup a nano...

Bloodkip has a good idea with lowering the bioload; that'll help quie a bit in keeping the tank alive while you go through this period.

You may also consider setting up dosing pumps, an ATO, a drain from the skimmer cup to a milk jug, etc, in order to allow you to do less maintenance. I don't know if you have any of that stuff setup, but let me tell you, the ATO alone has been a great help (fill up ATO reservoir every 2 weeks instead of topping off the tank every other day), and I imagine the dosing pumps I just got are going to make it even easier to maintain.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
My vote is go for the nano, and go back to the larger systems when the time is right. Get a nice AIO, set it up, frag some of your favorite corals, keep the clown and smaller fish and inverts, some LR pieces and your good to go.

    Nice tank:)

+1 for ATO!!! I added a Tunze ATO and automatic kalk doser last spring, and that's dramatically reduced the amount of tinkering I need to do with my tank.

I also order all my supplies on-line and have them delivered. That cuts down on my trips to the LFS where I'd go meaning just to pick up one thing, and end up spending waaaaaay too long browsing.

I know how you feel though. I have a 4 year old, a 16 month old, and two dogs. My saving grace is that I work shifts, so I'm home a lot when everyone else is either out, or asleep. It lets me catch up on my maintenance.

Everyone is giving great advice. The ATO made a world of difference in my setup, and the dosing pump is starting to do so as well. My parameters are getting very closed from being dialed in, and I've only ran the dosing pumps for about a week... BUT!!!... if you feel like you won't be able to take care of it at all (babies are very, VERY time consuming per the milligram) I would say the nano is a great alternative. Keep a little bit of your favorite corals, frag them and stick them in the nano, sell the rest and keep the tank and equipment you want. You can even leave the rock to dry and reuse it later when you're ready to get back on it.
I think you're being responsible as far as evaluating your options and alternatives. Very mature response IMO.
