Well, an update and a question. Took the shrimp out, my apartment stinks, and the water is green and musty. What can I do to help this along? My tests show : Ph 8.0, NH3 .25ppm, NO2 1 ppm, and NO3 40 ppm. Am I on the right track? I thought my ammonia would be higher? Thanks for the input ahead of time!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Yes you are on the right track, nitrifying bacteria are already converting the ammonia to nitrites and then nitrates.

Add carbon. GAC will remove smells from your water. That is if you are not already running it of course.

That is great, I think that will really help you out. I use an AquaClear 50 HOB filter on my 40 breeder and just run their carbon in there. Seems to work for now for me at least. ;D

So, should I get a single or a dual reactor? carbon/gfo or just carbon. i'm thinking the dual will be a good for down the road?
