    Absolutely, I have used Algone off and on for years. I notice that in the 55 gal. it seems to aid the skimmer somehow to produce better. Two cautions (small ones). Make sure you change it every 5 days as directed and when you remove the spent pouch try not to let the phlegm-like goo to come off and get back in the water.

    I wish they would publish what is actually in their pouches. I don't like throwing mystery magical filters into my tank, a lot of times they are completely ineffective or are just a fancy packaging of a simple product so they can charge more for it.
    For example it's possible it's just a simple carbon source and a $10 bottle of vodka could be just as effective for a fraction of the cost. JMO

    Why not try vodka dosing if you're concerned about controlling algae, then you DO know what you're putting in the tank. Although unless you are trying to actually fix a problem right now maybe just keep it in your back pocket for future reference.

    People please! Do just a little research.

    Here is an excerpt;
    WHAT'S IT MADE OF?
    ALGONE consists of 100% plant fibers. No chemicals are used or added during the manufacturing process. The pouch material is a paper-based product frequently used in the food processing industry. Paper and ink are FDA approved safe products. All raw materials are subject to extensive quality control procedures before packing and shipping, ensuring consistently high quality and purity for safe use of ALGONE in freshwater tropical fish - and saltwater aquariums.

    "ALGONE consists of 100% plant fibers". Do you want to know what plant? If you have a pond or know someone who does ask them about the use of hay and fibers to cure algae.
