Didn't know where else to put this, so I'm dropping it here. If the mods have a better place, please move it.;D

Looking to see if any Alaskans are on the board here, and where they get their livestock and dry goods? Doing a lot of checking, and anyone "outside" wants an arm and a leg, if they ship here at all. Never had a problem like this with shipping, but I'm sure a lot of the "lower 48" saltwater shippers are terrified of sending stuff up this way.

Checked out a local place in the Valley here, and it's not much to speak of. Heading into the city to look at a reef setup on Saturday, and plan on checking out Alaska Coral Fanatics. Any and all info from fellow Alaskans, or anyone who has dealt with shipping up here in Alaska is appreciated. Thanks.:)

Most of the suppliers in this hobby, even the dry goods sometimes, won't even ship to Canada. Now I realize that's now part of the US(lol) but as far as the cost of shipping...

I do know that Big Al's Online, has a separate website for Canda.

I can have most other things(dry goods) shipped here at a reasonable price. Some won't ship here, some insist it costs an arm and a leg, or I had one who thought we were another country.

Thing is, a LOT of companies look to make a killing on the shipping, when I know for a FACT that the price isn't that much more for ground here, based on other companies I have done business with, and some research.

I'll be making some phone calls over the next few days, to check out livestock shipping. Until then, any help is appreciated.;D

Awesome!!! I have always wanted to visit Alaska. First of all, it is fun to say! :) And second of all, the movie "The Proposal" was filmed there in Sitka. Have you ever visited Sitka or heard of the move i am talking about?

Not to get my own thread off track, but that looks like a chick flick, so no, I haven't seen it.;D As far as filming here, not so much.....

Although most of the film is set in Sitka, Alaska, filming actually took place in the Cape Ann area of Massachusetts, primarily in Rockport. Village streets and harbor locations were filmed on Bearskin Neck, at the Motif Number One on Bradley Wharf, and the other wharfs of Rockport Harbor.[citation needed] Scenes that took place at the publishing company were actually shot at the State Street financial building in Boston, while exterior city scenes were shot in New York City.

Hi, I ship to alaska. We only ship corals though no fish or drygoods. Shipping cost really depends on how remote you are. If you live in one of the larger cities up there it's not so bad. I'd be happy to give you a estimate if you email me your address [email protected] Also have you ever been to a ski resort called Moose Head? Just wondering we are going riding up there in February.

    Sent you an email.;D

Never heard of a ski resort called the Moose Head. There's a Moose Head Lake south of Fairbanks, near Nebesna. Are we talking cross country, or down hill? Alyeska is a world class downhill place outside of Girdwood, on Turnagain arm. One of the best places in Alaska for down hill, unless you have the cash for heli-skiing.;)

No, you can't fake that stuff, it's filmed in the Bering Sea.;D

My friend just moved back to Cali from living in Alaska for 8 years. We were talking about how her husband wanted to start a sw tank but everything was SO pricey there. Good luck, hope you find someone to ship cheap!
