The problem is, once that small army eliminates the aiptasia, they will all die in your tank.

I have never heard of Peppermint Shrimp going after LPS. Stealing food. Yes, but thats no diffrent than any cleaner shrimp. Peppermint Shrimp do not always eat aiptasia. I believe the hit or miss theory strongly has to do with the waters they originated. I would use Joes juice/aiptasia x or nudibranch before I introduced multiple peppermint shrimp. Although 1/2 is not bad because thats a common number even in tanks without aiptasia.

Agreed. They also can secrete poisonous toxins in the water when threatened or lack the diet they need when the Aiptasia is gone. They are not for the novice or intermediate aquarist.

Peppermint shrimp are safer and easier IME.

That I will. ha I got mine from Welcome to ReefTown
Great place. The owner is very helpful. I would get a few to start your colony. It's not a quick process though, but my tank is 100% clean of aipastia now.

It was this thick in all over the tank.

Have you had any problems with the berghia now that you don't have any aiptasia?

No not a single problem. I didn't move any out, I see tiny ones every once in a while. I think my pistol shrimp ate some, but they cleared out the aipastia. I haven't seen any ill effects of toxins in the water.

i had four peppermint shrimp just because i like shrimp and got a few corals. I dipped a tricolor frogspawn and within a couple minutes the largest peppermint shrimp popped all the tissue and ate all of the exposed polyp. It died in less than five minutes. Then a second peppermint shrimp a couple weeks later started to do the same thing to a blast I introduced so i caught him and put him in my softy tank. The other two never touched anything but I did alot of searching and it happens more often than one would think.

I will never own another peppermint shrimp. Sure, they ate my aiptasia. Then they got rid of my spaghetti worms, comb jellies, feather dusters, killed my rock flower anemones, killed a frogspawn, etc. Yes, these were peppermints and not camel shrimp.

    They became mantis food. ;)

They problem with getting critters to eat other critters is that they eat critters lol. I have yet to hear about any issues with the berghia nudi's however. Alot of people just be sure to run carbon as the aiptasia run out as the population will die and probably not contribute to great water quality.
