I picked up a zoa frag yesterday and it looks like there's an aiptasia on it.

What's the best way to get it without killing the frag? Kalk paste? It's right next to a polyp...

    Thanks.

I've only used kalk paste or burning them till now. Burning is definitely out. ;D

    I'll try the Joe's juice...

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Joe Juice is basically kalk paste I believe.

This is what I do: Remove frags noting where aiptasia is at, the zoanthid polyps will close, apply kalk paste with a Q-tip to aiptasia, allow frags to sit out of water for 5 or more minutes, rinse in display water and return frag.

Does this usually get them the first time or do you have to reapply?

If you apply a tiny glob to aiptasia and let it sit out of water it should kill it the first time.

I had the exact same problem except it was on my big zoa rock. What I use to kill aptasia is actually liquid crazy glue or super glue. The gel kind doesn't work quite as well. The liquid crazy glue covers and smother the entire aptasia, then when you place it in the water it instantly gels and starts to harden and the aptasia is trapped inside, unable to move and unable to spread. It ends up dying in no time.

NO NO NO!!! That is the worst thing you could ever do! For 2 reasons! First being, if you get any of that boiling water on any zoas, instant damage. Second... the aptasia WILL come back! And in numbers! I have tried this boiling water method when I was a newbie... was the worst decission I had ever made! I spent forever taking the rock out and smothering them in crazy glue instead. Do not use boiling water!
