as most of you read through my ammonia (8+) spike thread that almost crashed my tank and broke my heart. i have started to rebuild and keeping everything in check.
so far i have added 3 bartlett anthias and a couple of corals i purchased from a local reefer for cheap. i have added purple and green birds nest, a couple of acros, monti's, ricordea's and more which i am not good with coral names. and everything was just $80. which my friend told me would total to around $180 if i buy from vendors.
later i will be picking up $150 worth of corals from another local reefer which is the supplier of 4 major fish store in my area. he will be giving me a frag of each of what he posted on craigslist for $150. my first reaction was " for real?"
you guys have to see the corals he posted and i mean a frag of each. i am so happy right now.
here is his post on craigslist: Colorful very nice coral frags beginner corals SPS/zoas/cloves/chalice
he will be deleting this post when he is on his way to deliver.

anyway a picture and video of my tank after the ammonia scare.

I missed your original thread. 8ppm. Wow!!!! I'm glad you are in good spirits considering. Might I suggest that you always have some emergency water made up. (For instance downstairs, I have 42 gallons of heated/aerated saltwater and 42 gallons of heated RO/DI water). Another nice thing to always keep on hand is a bottle of Seachem Prime to detoxify the Ammonia.

well i am partially prepared now. i have 40g mixed water ready for use (aerated) except they are not up to temp.

having that high of ammonia scared me. i even used prime and use ro/di since the beginning. this has been the most water change i did in a week.
2 40g change every other day and did a final 75g change by the end of the week. after that my biological filtration caught up and now back to zero.
i will never keep another serpent star in my tank :)

Haha I know what you mean. I am horrible at identifying about any SPS coral. They look the same to me :p. But what I meant by names was the corals on the craigslist ad.(i.e. - the "ultra neon" cloves, "Miami hurricane" chalice, "Vivid's Inferno Emerald Mummy Eye" Chalice etc). I just prefer to use the genus and/or species names. :)

If amonia does spike like this, can you use Seachem Prime to neutralize it? Or is immediate water change an absolute must?

Temporarily. The chemical reaction is not forever. However, it will give you time to mix and heat some saltwater to do a water change.
