Okay, sorry if I referred to you as people. If you read what I said you would see that I wasn't suggesting he let the old river rock cure. Obviously if it's been in the tank long enough, it's already live rock. I was suggesting he let the new rock cure, then removing the old rock slowly so as not to upset the biological filter.

I don't think anything I said was very hard. The first option I gave was pretty easy. It just involves putting rocks in, then slowly taking the unwanted rocks out over time. I also gave a second option which basically said said "Cure the dry rock until it's live and then replace it." The second one is harder, but sometimes people want options.

And you weren't acknowledging that he said he wanted to remove 30% of his rock. You just said "You aren't taking any of it out." When he clearly said "I want to take out 30% of the rock."

The river rock will have some beneficial bacteria colonizing on the exterior so take out only 25% of the rock you want out each week and add the proportionate amount of dry rock until you have all the river rock out. Test your water for amm, no3 and no4 24 hrs after you take out and add at each stage. Test again at one week after all rock has been replaced if all params are 0 then you are good to go. If you have an amm spike anywhere along the way stop the process until amm and no3 are 0 before you continue. If you already have fish keep a good eye on them as you go for stress. Hope this helps.;)

agreed in full, you can add as much base rock as you want but you wont be able to remove any of the live rock untile the base rock starts growing bacteria on it.

that is not what I said, I said you are not taking all of it out.
and also he never stated how many ppg of river rock he had in his tank. So I was assuming since he said he wanted to remove 30% of it out that it must been an issue of space for the new dry rock.
