I have a horseshoe crab in a seperate tank in which i had collected some local stuff from the sound and have had him for probably 6 months...he is one of the only guys in the tank currently and i was wondering if he would adapt to my reef tank considering i have seen them in reef tanks before, im not worried of parasites or pollutants since i have had him so long without producing any symptoms of anything. Please no one attack me over this just asking for some input, if its not in his best interest ill stray away from it. The horshoe crab is a little smaller than a half dollar and i got him when he was only the size of a quarter

They tend to be bulldozers. It won't harm fish or corals other than knocking them over. Use caution for this reason alone. If that's not a consideration then you can add him in.

Agree they do get very large... but also being sand dwellers, they don't fair too well with a lot of rockwork.

I had one in a reef for about a year and a half and it did fine. However I rarely saw him as they are out of sight almost all of the time. So I returned him when I re-arranged my tank.

i dont have any corals on my sand bed so i dont think that will be an issue....and as for size they usually dont make it to a full adult size when held captive so im not too worried about it, hes got a couple years to outgrow this setup and hopefully by then ill have my 200+ gallon tank....the issue i was bringing up is whether or not he will be able to adjust to normal reef conditions....he was collected from ny and ive used the water from ny in his tank which has stayed at room temperature ~75 the horshoe crabs are used to violent temperature swings etc here because parts of here during the summer the water can be like 55 degrees and some parts like 75 degrees....i collected him in a low tidal area so the water was probably closer to 80 degrees

If you found him in water that warm, he should be fine.

how would you go about acclimating him from natural sound water to tank water, slow drip until its 50/50 today and then maybe tomorrow drip him so its 75/25 and then one last time for an hour or so just before adding on sunday maybe? or do you think he would be fine to be dripped right in today for a slow drip of like 3 hours?
