i still seem to be leaning towards acrylic. im fairly careful about my tank (as in when i clean it, im not an idiot scrubbing aroudn super hard.) I personally dont want to buy starfire since i would have to pay much more, almost the price i would pay for the $40 gallon acrylic ($180 before taxes). I just do not want 40 gallons of water ever on my floor. I had about 10 one time and it was the biggest pain.

You are correct. An acrylic tank scratches much easier than glass. Are you inferring that glass scratches just as easily?

never said it wouldn't leak. but it will be more scratch resistant then acrylic and clearer then glass.
it gets real scratched up. also You can't use a razor blade to clean corraline algae off. Besides most people with high powered lighting in the lower states don't need there tanks to hold in anymore heat.

while in the 40 gallon range, with a new properily built tank and stand. I wouldn't worry about leaks as far as the main tank is concerned. not saying it won't happen just unlikely unless the tank is on a improper stand or the tank is used.

No I am not inferring that. I know acrylic sratches alot easier than glass, but I have seen many glass tanks that look way worse than my acrylic tank. It all comes down to how careful you are with your tank.

If you are careful it doesnt get real scratched up. Yes its easier to use a razor blade to clean coraline off glass but an old credit card with very small light scraping will remove coraline without leaving scratches. My reef tank has been up and running for almost 3 years now and my tank looks good. There are a few small scratches here and there but nothing that detracts from the overall beauty of the tank.

In the end it all comes down to what the person setting up the tank wants or can afford within their budget.

well budget isnt a huge issue, but i have just read so many stories about tanks leaking....just sounds horrible, livestock dead, everything dead = loss of so much money invested
