enlighten us with your ever so careful techniques that keep your tanks walls coraline free 24/7. The tank had the scratches when i got it, i didnt put them in there, my only complant about the tank mainitinace is that its not as easy to clean as a glass tank is.

I have a acrylic tank and I like how I can carry the whole thing(36 gallon) with one hand compared to a glass tank. I would recommend being proactive by cleaning the sides when you start seeing a sign of algae on it before it grows into a pain. I just keep a magnetic scraper in my tank above the water line when I'm not using it.
I agree with the credit card because its sturdy and wont be too soft to work with. Or you can use a rag and scrub it like you would with dishes. sometimes your fingers will do a better job ;)

Btw there are several different brands of acrylic tanks so maybe you got one from a bad maker if you are having sealing issues. and scratches can be buffed out with a specific compound from your local hardware store.

I always scrape my front glass every night so it wont happen to me. I would put pieces of live rock in my tank so coralline algae will spread onto it and I can give it away to help someone start a coralline algae population on their dry rock.

First off I clean the front and sides of my tank every other day with an algae pad for acrylic. If you keep up on it you never have to scrub anything off and the coraline algae isnt a problem. I let the coraline algae grow all it wanted to on the back and it grew great. When I moved and drained the tank the coraline dried out and flaked off in huge pieces. I didnt have to clean it before setting it up again. Near the bottom of the tank by the substrate I am extremely careful not to get too close to the sand. That way I avoid any sand getting between the pad and the acrylic. I also do not use a fine sand, I use a little larger that doesnt stir up as easy. If you stay on top of the cleaning the front, every few days you actually make cleaning easier. You just have to be careful. Dont use an algae pad with a handle it has to be done with your hand and arm in the tank. But you already said you dont want to have your arm deep in the tank.
