I've always had a normal amount of salt creep on my 55g and never thought anything of it. I have noticed over the past few days that the top left area where my light bracket meets the tank, there is a much larger amount of creep than I'm used too. it basically cakes the underside of the mounting bracket and also comes over the left side of the rim. I've attached a pic to show the area.

I have been topping off a little more RO than normal (does come up over the inside rim a tiny bit in places) but I'm confused as why the large amount of creep is only on that side. Maybe my floor is expanding from the heat of Summer and unleveling the tank?

Let me know your thoughts or if I should worry.

i've adjusted PHs before to break the surface and get more creep in that area. I also get more creep above the clam (squirter). Just some thoughts.

Yeah I've def tried not to worry about it, just odd it started all the sudden. I noticed just a very small amount of water coming over the inner rim, doesn't seem like enough to get that much creep in that area though. I do have a maxima right under that area but it's on the sandbed 18" down. Could it possibly be spouting off water that far down?

is that the area where you have your overflow or HOB?

no overflow & just an HOB remora skimmer but it's not near there. I don't really have much in that area so that's why it's puzzling. I do have the maxima in that front left corner on the sand bed but I don't know if he can spout that high.

I would check for a leak....just lost a 135g that dumped on my floor due to a leak, with massive livestock loss (sps, lps)

What I would do is what I was told to do to find my leak. Get some paper towels and tape it to the tank in that area, starting from the bottom of the rim down the edge. Leave it for a while and check. If the paper towel is wet then you have a leak which will get worse if not treated. Move anything that might be squirting water out away from that side......good luck

thanks will do that in case, the only positive is that the way the salt creep has accumulated seems to be emanating from the top of the rim. So, I'm hoping it's just run off onto the inner rim that gets stuck under the fixture mounting leg.

sorry to hear about your tank :(

took a look at my tank again last night & I think I know what's going on. The outflow vent from my cooling fan is directly over that left-corner area of my tank. The heat coming from my fixture shooting out of it is most likely causing a lot more condensation/evaporation over that area. During the course of the day I'm guessing the evap causes a more significant amount of salt to be left there.

    Does that make sense?

yeah I did tape some paper towels like you suggested just in case thx. no signs of any leaks, so my guess above is what I think it is. My fixture puts out a good amount of heat so it does make sense having that amount over that area.
